Jo Toner
Behavior Services Program Assistant
Hello. My name is Joanne and I am the Behavior Services Program Assistant for Among Friends. My duties include: scheduling, gathering needed documents and assisting with billing needs. My favorite thing about working for Among Friends is their focus on team building and training. This company sees the importance of preparing and supporting their staff, no matter what position within the company they hold.
During my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, horseback riding and immersing myself in nature. I live on a farm and have several animals, including one miniature poodle named Tilly, 4 cats -Wicket, Beetle, Kirby, and Pickles-, a Turtle named Tina, Frank the Hamster, Oreo and Lucy the goats, Hollywood the Llama, Thelma and Ethel the Alpacas, Beans and Cheese the Donkeys, Henry the stallion, and Mona Lisa the mini horse.
I am excited to be a part of the behind the scenes portion of providing Behavior Services to our amazing clients and hope to work with you soon!

I am studying for my Bachelor's in Psychology at Phoenix University.

6 and a half years (as of 2024)

I had begun my experience in this field as a Care Giver for a family member who suffered with Alzheimer's. After their passing I took time to obtain my Cosmetology License in Duluth, MN. After working for a number of years with specializing and training with Vidal Sassoon instructors I had made my way back to a more fulfilling career path in the mental health and wellness field in Southern Oregon beginning in an entry position and quickly moving my way into an Assistant Administrator for a Residential Treatment Facility.
-
Within my work I believe it is imperative to display empathy and have integrity.
-
The moment I am most proud of is when I had come across a previous client, they had shared all of their accomplishments and recalling lessons they had gathered from our group sessions. Seeing how our team had impacted them brought so much fulfillment.

I have one son age 7!

I am originally from Queens, NY from two immigrant parents (Mother from Ecuador and Father from Ireland.) My mother joined the Navy when I was about 10 so we had moved from Military Bases from Jacksonville, North Carolina to Gurnee, Illinois - outside of Great Lakes. In my younger, and more adventurous years I joined a best friend from beauty school on a trip out to the west coast. When I visited Medford, Oregon I knew this was the area my soul was connected to. As a Military brat it is difficult to plant those roots, but Southern Oregon called for me. 7 months of saving I answered and I packed up and have made this beautiful state my home for 10 years.
-
Quarantine made me reflect a lot on how much I craved human interaction, making those connections. This opened up my path to work virtually with children from ages 5-18 and becoming less isolated.
-
The Redwoods are always so humbling. Every time my family and I visit we are in awe these historical trees.
